CHILDREN SUPPORT

GRP views child support as a vital area of our work. The plight of the street children in the Philippines is an increasing dilemma. It is estimated that there are as many as 1.5 million street children in the country, with a further 3.7 million child labourers. The root cause of this staggering number is poverty. The average earnings of an agricultural worker in the rural Province of Davao Oriental  is approximately £ 1.10 per day. Often this work is also seasonal. Image feeding your family, paying for school fees and medical attention from this low income.

In the urban cities, such as Davao City, for many, the situation is equally poor, with shanty town areas expanding every year. 90% of these citizens are illegal squatters living on the land owned by the government or private land owners. Over 70% of these homes have no piped water or proper sanitation,  with families often living in one room.

GRP assists House of Joy Orphanage on a monthly basis. We supply much of the  funds needed for providing basic food costs,  and members  and associates of GRP send parcels of clothing and gifts to the children. We also give people from Northern Ireland and further a field  the opportunity to actually volunteer and visit the children, giving much needed emotional and social support to the kids. This personal interaction is greatly welcomed by the kids and staff of House of Joy.

We always welcome donations for our children support in the Philippines, these donations will help House of Joy to continue its' work to provide for children who are in so much need. Your assistance will not only ensure that the children can find a secure home, food, education but also the much needed love that every child requires,   and of course it also removes the children from hardship of urban street life to the relax  atmosphere of the country town of San Isidro.
